In recent years, the jazz harp has quietly reemerged as a force in modern jazz circles, exemplified by electric jazz harpist and composer Maria-Christina Harper. In 2023, she released her much-acclaimed debut album 'Passing By 'with The Harper Trio, imbuing her compositions and instrument with a spirit of innovation and creative freedom. Drawing influences from her Greek and Egyptian musical roots to the avant-garde, the album established the trio's signature sound - spiritually charged, shimmering soundscapes and experimental tones - recasting the harp's place in jazz.

Dialogue of Thoughts is The Harper Trio's second album reuniting the exceptional talents of celebrated drummer Evan Jenkins (of the Neil Cowley Trio) and dynamic saxophonist Josephine Davies. True to her approach, Maria-Christina Harper is less concerned with placing her harp centre stage than creating a dialogue between band members, each bringing their own experiences to the sound. The trio takes the listener on an aural journey rich in nuance and unexpected turns. Throughout the album, Davies' warm, full-bodied tone and expansive solos--fuelled by Jenkins' measured, intricate drumming--interplay with the harp to evoke contrasting moods, from brash intensity to quiet serenity and unhurried calm.

Maria-Christina has gathered two outstanding, highly acclaimed players to form The Harper Trio for whom she has specifically composed 7 original tracks. Είχες ποτέ μια από αυτές τις νύχτες που νιώθεις ότι όλα σου φταίνε, τίποτα δε σου πάει καλά και αρχίζεις να υποψιάζεσαι ότι μάλλον φταις λιγάκι και εσύ;

Εκεί που καθόμουν λοιπόν με το τσιγάρο και το ποτό μου να σκοτώνω το χρόνο μου βλέποντας βιντεάκια στο youtube  πέφτω πάνω στο live του D.D Dumbo από το Pitchfork. 

Βλέποντας τον άρχισα να θαυμάζω το ταλέντο του αλλά και να ξενερώνω ακόμα πιο πολύ σκεφτόμενος πόσα ωραία πράγματα γίνονται στην πόλη και εγώ τα έχω χάσει. Αυτά βέβαια μέχρι να δω τη φάτσα μου να κουνίεται στο ρυθμό λίγο πριν το τέλος του κομματιού. Είχα ξεχάσει ότι ήμουν και εγώ εκεί από κάτω (είχα πάει κυρίως για τους Future Islands τότε).

Μαζί με το τσιγάρο έσβησα και την αυτολύπηση από τα μούτρα μου και σκέφτηκα "Sans la musique, la vie serait une erreur".

Beware of Mr. Baker

Είδα που λες αυτό το ντοκιμαντεράκι και είπα να σε ψήσω να το δεις. Αν κάποτε υπήρξες κι εσύ φαν τουλάχιστον των Cream, τότε είναι must. Creme de la creme που λένε.



Θα μπορούσα να σου πω πολλά αλλά σε προκαλώ να το δεις πρώτα και τα λέμε μετά. Πάρε μερικά καλά:

Liquid Liquid

Profile:

Early-80s band on the legendary 99 Records label. Often namechecked because of the track "Cavern" from which parts were replayed by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five for their hit single "White Lines". Liquid Liquid were originally a much more punk sounding band called Liquid Idiot who released one 7" before reforming as Liquid Liquid and basing their sound around a much more percussive framework. They would invite members of the audience to bring their own percussion to their gigs and at one of these, they were so impressed when Dennis Young brought a marimba that they invited him to join. They developed their own unique sound which they called 'big beat' (a term some English producers would use more than a decade later for something entirely different).

Είδα αρκετές συναυλίες τις τελευταίες μέρες, αλλά μία μόνο θα σας αναφέρω γιατί ο παλιός είναι αλλιώς. Οι Βρώμικοι Τρεις, ή αλλιώς ο Μούσιας, ο Μουστάκιας και ο Άτριχος, έκλεψαν την παράσταση, παρότι σχεδόν είχαμε ξεχάσει ότι υπάρχουν. Ο Μούσιας, ή αλλιώς Warren Ellis, είναι πάντα τεράστια μορφή, αεικίνητος, κομμάτια, τόσο που η μοναδική φωτο που μπόρεσα να τον πάρω ακίνητο ήταν η παραπάνω. Φυσικά θυμήθηκα τα παλιά τα χρόνια και αναζήτησα τη δισκογραφία του.

Σας τράβηξα και ενα αποκλειστικό βίντεο, μόνο για τους αναγνώστες του ιστολογίου μας.
Ο σωστός ο οπερατέρ βέβαια δεν εστιάζει στον βιολιτζή, αλλά στο θεό ντράμερ με τη μπιφτεκοκαράφλα και το απαράμιλλο στιλ.

Τάκη μου καλή χρονιά. Επειδής οι καιροί είναι δύσκολοι σε δίνω δίσκο φτηνό, μισοτιμής του Fred του Frith που άκουσα στο ράδιο πέρσι.

The real thing is that our own modern society is in decay and the rulers are doing everything possible to hide this from us. They fear every alternative, look what they say about not eating meat, or see how they hinder the evolution of clean technologies and the use of natural energy, how they keep the people devided in catagories, how they stand towards the poor and the hungry, so it's obvious that they try to sabotage every attempt to even design an alternative society. Thoughts like ours are not allowed because endangering their secure life, their property and their wealth. In order to defend it they have created a huge and powerfull military force and installed fascist police forces and they are telling lies about the eco-anarchists and present them as a gang of provocateurs and terrorists.
I hope that Militia have shown another picture and revealed the real nature of eco-anarchists and their views, which are basically good, because based upon global solidarity and respect, in harmony with nature and open for all, based upon freedom and the will to care.

Στα πεταχτά, μια που άρχισα να ξεψειρίζω πάλι μετά από πολύ καιρό τον Raz Mesinai aka Badawi.



Και εδώ διάφορα ωραία που μας προσφέρει απλόχερα. Shako ακούς; Έχει βγάλει και graphic novel. Όπως και επίσης τη σύνθεση Crossfader για τους Kronos Quartet. Θανάσ' τον αιθέρα! Όλα αυτά βεβαίως μόνο και μόνο για να συμπληρώσω το tag illbient...
