The Frightnrs / Always

 Καινούργιο.

"The fact the Frightnrs have released a second album with their original lineup is a truly remarkable achievement given the group’s history. Frightnrs lead singer and guitarist Dan Klein lost his life to ALS a few months before the release of their 2016 debut album Nothing More to Say, and while he made it clear to his bandmates that he wanted the group to continue, replacing Klein’s high, clear, soulful voice, a perfect instrument for the vintage rocksteady and early reggae sounds that are the band’s hallmark, would be a daunting task. As it happens, on 2022’s Always the group has managed to make a new album with Klein even if he isn’t available in the flesh."

Soul Revivers / On the Grove

Acid Jazz Records presents Nick Manasseh & David Hill’s Soul Revivers: ‘On the Grove’.

An ambitious and passionate collaboration project, it features musicians spanning seven decades, including Jamaican legends: Ernest Ranglin, Ken Boothe, Earl 16 and Devon Russell; alongside contemporary artists, including jazz trumpeter Ms. Maurice (known for her work with Afro—Jazz Ensemble Kokoroko and Nubya Garcia), and vocalist Alexia Coley.

The roots of Soul Revivers lie in film. In late 2017, David was asked to act as music and creative consultant for Idris Elba’s Yardie. A year or so after the film was completed, David and Nick returned to some unused sessions they had recorded for the film. These sessions then became the seeds of this album.

New Age Doom / Lee "Scratch" Perry’s Guide to the Universe

New Age Doom follows up its critically acclaimed 2020 drone metal opus Himalayan Dream Techno with a serendipitous LP featuring the dub legend Lee "Scratch" Perry as lead vocalist.

With its central themes of experimentation and dreaming, the album takes listeners on a sonic trip through a genre-defying blend of drone, jazz, stoner rock, noise and (of course) dub.

Horatio Luna – Yes Doctor (2020)

Ακούγεται ευχάριστα.

"‘Yes Doctor’ is the debut LP from Henry Hicks AKA Horatio Luna. The eclectic Melbourne shape-shifter solidifies his place within ‘house music’ on Yes Doctor as Dub, Jazz & Bruk bleed into one another - stretching further the thread that binds one to the other whilst mapping and exploring the space between."
