I'm cult, if I wanted culture I would eat a yogurt.

When I rap its like I'm someone else
It's like I don't know how to play the piano, please somebody help
My inner Eric Satie's buried so deep inside
I still can't decide where I reside

Ten years in, still an underdog
Got a hundred songs on like a hundred blogs
And I got a million opinions
And you'll never get rid of me, I'm like the Palestinians

Μα γιατί στο εορταστικό διπλό τεύχος του Economist υπήρχε άρθρο "Seven seconds of fire - How a short burst of drumming changed the face of music" με τη σχετική ιστορία.
“[Coleman’s] heart and soul went into that drum break,” he says. “Now these guys copy and paste it and make millions.” It is a tricky area, acknowledges Mr Reynolds. He notes that had Mr Spencer received a fraction of what he considers to be his dues he could have retired early and put his children through college. On the other hand, he and Coleman have achieved a sort of immortality: “It’s a bit like the man who goes to the sperm bank and unknowingly sires hundreds of children.” Mr Skinner agrees that it is a shame the original musicians earned nothing from the reuse of their work, but says, “you don’t want a world where sampling can’t happen.” The legal infrastructure surrounding sampling has become more robust. Yet even if the legion of small-time producers who were using sampled breaks 15-20 years ago could somehow have been identified and challenged, it is not as if Mr Spencer would have received anything; jungle would have taken a different form—or perhaps simply been crushed. That would have counted as one of the music world’s minor tragedies."

Και από Impressions το 1964:

Και μην ξεχνάτε, jungle is massive!

The Hungarian Suicide Song

"Gloomy Sunday" is a song composed by Hungarian pianist and composer Rezső Seress and published in 1933, as "Vége a világnak" ("End of the world"). Lyrics were written by László Jávor, and in his version the song was retitled "Szomorú vasárnap" ("Sad Sunday"). The song was first recorded in Hungarian by Pál Kalmár in 1935. His version immediately became popular in Hungary, but became associated with a high number of suicides, reportedly including that of Jávor's ex-fiancee, and several people who jumped into the Danube holding copies of the sheet music.

It became well known throughout much of the English-speaking world after the release of a version by Billie Holiday in 1941. Lewis's lyrics referred to suicide, and the record label described it as the "Hungarian Suicide Song". There is a recurring urban legend that claims that many people committed suicide with this song playing. The BBC banned Billie Holiday's version of the song from being broadcast, as being detrimental to wartime morale, but allowed performances of instrumental versions. However, there is little evidence of any other radio bans; the BBC's ban was lifted by 2002.

The restaurant owner Laszlo hires the pianist András to play in his restaurant. Both men fall in love with the beautiful waitress Ilona who inspires András to his only composition. His song of Gloomy Sunday is, at first, loved and then feared, for its melancholic melody triggers off a chain of suicides. The fragile balance of the erotic ménage à trois is sent off kilter when the German Hans goes and falls in love with Ilona as well. (Πάρ' την από εδώ)

Same old me

Willie the Chimney Sweeper - Ernest Rodgers

Have you ever heard about Willie the Weeper?
Had a job as a chimney sweeper
He had the dope habit, and he had it bad.
Let me tell you 'bout a little dream he had.

He went down to the dope shop late Saturday night
He knew the lights would all be burning bright
Well, I guess he must have smoked a dozen pills or more
When he woke up he was on a foreign shore.

He had a million cattle and he had a million sheep
He had a million vessels on the ocean deep
He had a million dollars, all in nickels and dimes
And he knew because he'd counted them a million times

He landed in New York, one evening late
He asked his sugar for an after date
He started to kiss her and she started to pout
When...bang! Bang!
And the dope gave out

Τι ώρα είναι ρε παίδες;
