Sisyphus is the new name for the collaboration between Serengeti, Son Lux, and Sufjan Stevens (formally s/s/s), whose new project under this moniker is a self-titled album partly inspired by the art of Jim Hodges, and commissioned by the Walker Art Center and The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra’s Liquid Music series in Minneapolis/Saint Paul.

Massive Attack's Neil Davidge on his debut album: Slo Light

Although this marks Davidge’s first solo album, his credits extend back to the early '90s and production work with Massive Attack (Mezzanine, 100th Window, Heligoland), Xbox’s Halo 4 game, and film scores (Luc Besson’s Unleashed, Paul McGuigan’s Push). Davidge has also worked with boundary-pushing artists like Bowie, Cocteau Twins’ Elisbeth Fraser, Primal Scream, and Mos Def. Not surprisingly, the 13 tracks that comprise Slo Light are theatrical, cinematic, haunting, and a little unsettling. Featuring a roster of up and coming vocalists, Slo Light reflects Davidge’s collaborative credentials and deft touch with grand, complex arrangements. Before Slo Light, it might not have been so easy to detect or pinpoint Davidge’s sophisticated, sensuous touch. After Slo Light, it will be hard to miss.

Thievery Corporation / Saudade

Thievery Corporation, one of the most influential and respected names on the electronic/dance music scene, are pleased to announce their seventh studio album, 'Saudade,' their first record devoted entirely to the Brazilian-born genre that first connected the duo. The album will be released on April 1st via their own ESL Music label.
'Saudade' borrows its title from a Portuguese word meaning “a longing for something or someone that is lost, a contented melancholy, or, simply, the presence of absence.” Drawing influence from classic Brazilian performers like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gal Costa, and Luis Bonfá—along with Serge Gainsbourg, Ennio Morricone, and more modern artists like electro-samba pioneer Isabelle Antena—Saudade achieves its delicate yet deeply sensuous sound with the help of more than a dozen guest musicians. With each track sung by one of five female vocalists (including longtime Thievery cohort LouLou Ghelichkhani, newcomer Elin Melgarejo, Nouvelle Vague singer Karina Zeviani, Argentine chanteuse Natalia Clavier, and former Bitter:Sweet singer/songwriter Shana Halligan), the endlessly mesmerizing album also features such guests as U.N.K.L.E. drummer Michael Lowery, Argentine singer/songwriter Federico Aubele, and master Brazilian percussionist Roberto Santos.
“We always try to progress into something different and stretch our musical chops, and taking a whole album to dive into this one sound seemed like a really great way to do that,” says Eric Hilton. Adds Rob Garza: “It’s a bit of a departure for us, but at the same time these are our roots, this is what brought us together. It’s us coming full circle from electronic music back to something organic before we move on to our next chapter.” (source)
