Born in the Alps in a small house spreading between the Italian and Swiss border, Alan Strani is a transdisciplinary artist exploring music and visual arts. For his new album, he invited artists Saeko Killy, Dasho Utochka (Love Object) and French singer Tessa Martin to join him in his attempt to musically make sense of the current Zeitgeist while questioning our relation to the digital world. The result is the album carried by its homonym single Apocalypso, a wordplay suggesting that, in the face of a possible emerging Apocalypse, like Ulysse during his Odyssey, the entire world is being distracted by the charms of the Calypso nymph.

Plaid‘s 11th album is one of the long-running duo’s most conceptually driven releases. The premise is that the act performed a set at the Feorm Festival on a distant planet called Falorx, and they were converted into light in order to survive the planet’s atmosphere. They returned to Earth and re-created their set, and Feorm Falorx is the result.

How I used to touch and touch your beauty
Now you’re a song from an open window to me
Girl, it’s in the future we belong
I know it’s in the future we belong
And I’m not saying that I can’t live without you
But I’m a long way from figuring out how to
Girl, it’s in the future we belong
I know it’s in the future we
And different storms on different kinds of waters
While you ran into the arms of others
Babe, it’s in the future we belong
I know it's in the future we belong
How you’re projecting the moviе in which you star in
Aaah people bore mе but you’re something different darling
Now all that I can think of now you’re gone
Babe, it’s in the future we belong
For now
Until I move on

The third Mollono.Bass Album is dedicated to what we need most. We as inhabitants of the same planet, we as members of a free society, and we as a culture. We have to stick together more than ever, rather than drifting further and further apart. At the same time, Together brings together everything Mollono.Bass stands for since more than 20 years: Ritualist Afro-influences and acid loops, the sensual physicality of House, the laid-back boost of Dub Techno, analogue depth and digital highs, hope transcribed into groove and utopia set into rhythmic motion. It’s the dynamic novelty and pioneering spirit of the arrangements that reflect the unmistakable signature style of this producer. True to the traditional idea of an album, complete with previously unreleased tracks and special versions, Together is a highly immersive listening experience from start to end and works beautifully on the dancefloor and far beyond it.

The brand new album by GRAMMY-winning guitarist, producer and Black Pumas co-founder, Adrian Quesada, serves as a celebration of the super funky, slightly delirious and deeply soulful sounds that transcended the cultural boundaries of Latin America throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Inspired by the aural collage of the Beatles' "Revolution Number 9," as well as the musique concrete of composers such as John Cage and Terry Riley and Bob Dylan's conscientious rock lyricism, Bill Holt quit his straight job in 1972 to follow his musical muse, hoarding various electronic gadgets and an acoustic guitar and holing up in his basement. He emerged a year later with Dreamies, one of the finest pieces of experimental pop from the era. Unlike the Beatles' White Album collage, though, the pair of sidelong, 26-minute epics -- "Program Ten" and "Program Eleven" (as if progressing directly from "Revolution Number 9") -- that Holt created were much more than symbolic representations of the chaotic times. At its heart, the album is a blend of folk and pop/rock, and in many respects, Dreamies fits in with the singer/songwriter scene that flowered in the early '70s. Instead of relying simply on the juxtapositions of his sound samples to impart subjective meanings, Holt composed lovely, downhearted melodies (very much recalling John Lennon) and trippy lyrics as a jumping-off point for each collage and then let acoustic guitar guide them through the gauntlet of sound. In fact, "Program Ten" is a combination of two identifiable songs, "Sunday Morning Song" and "The User," the two melodies weaving in and out of the cacophony of noise-crickets, atmospheric sounds, a John Kennedy speech, NASA chatter, news reports, glass breaking, a thunderstorm, sports broadcasts, and gunfire while a synthesizer spits out spacey alien sounds or cuts like a kettle whistle, and an ominous bassline oscillates beneath it all. "Program Eleven" exchanges that white noise for airport sounds, creepy Sgt. Pepper-style chants that bubble up from beneath the single melody fragment ("Going for a Ride"), game show catch phrases, and popping corn. Of the two pieces, "Program Ten" is the more socially charged commentary, setting the innocent recollections of youth -- the sounds of summer and nature -- against the misanthropic confusion of war and politics to powerful effect. "Program Eleven" is more psychedelically eerie and haunting, aurally dense, and thick with bad vibes, but wonderful nonetheless. The spoken samples are mostly more buried in the background and difficult to make out. It adds both intrigue and mystery to the piece, a foreboding end to what began optimistically. The music, in other words, ingeniously mirrored the sort of evolution of consciousness that was so much a part of the era. Dreamies went virtually unheard when it was released, perhaps because it was the antithesis of commercial rock at the time, but, despite its grounding in the ambiance and issues of the '60s, it still sounds outstanding decades after the fact.

common ground where others would see none.

"The fact the Frightnrs have released a second album with their original lineup is a truly remarkable achievement given the group’s history. Frightnrs lead singer and guitarist Dan Klein lost his life to ALS a few months before the release of their 2016 debut album Nothing More to Say, and while he made it clear to his bandmates that he wanted the group to continue, replacing Klein’s high, clear, soulful voice, a perfect instrument for the vintage rocksteady and early reggae sounds that are the band’s hallmark, would be a daunting task. As it happens, on 2022’s Always the group has managed to make a new album with Klein even if he isn’t available in the flesh."

Interesting:
" A cinematic musical journey that plays out like a long-lost soundtrack (think cult B-movies of the 60s and 70s); 'The Children of Scorpio’ was formed from Paul's love of a myriad of genres; from European library music, acid folk, psych-funk, vintage soundtracks and the contemporary breaks scene. The album draws on iconic classics such as the masterful cinematic funk of Lalo Schifrin's 'Dirty Harry', Ennio Morricone's 'Vergogna Schifosi’ and Luis Bacalov’s 'The Summertime Killer’, to name but a few. You can also hear the folk sounds of Mark Fry's iconic 'Dreaming With Alice', the Britsh folk-jazz of The Pentangle and the David Axelrod-produced 'Release Of An Oath' by The Electric Prunes, woven into the cultural tapestry of this gem. The influence of these vintage productions of the 60s and 70s is evident; however, it could be argued that there’s also echoes of the funkier psychedelic moments of bands such as The Stones Roses and The Charlatans, alongside contemporaries such as The Heliocentrics and Little Barrie, thus giving the album a broader crossover potential beyond the world of crate digging and vintage soundtracks."

Περίεργο.
Los Angeles-via-Oakland musician Chris Adams who makes music under the
moniker PENDANT releases his Saddle Creek debut Harp, on April 8th. A
lush, surprising new body of work from the producer and songwriter, Harp
connects 90s house and rave music with hip-hop, shoegaze, and pop, and
which serves as a culmination of years of painful emotional work for
Adams brought on by the death of his Father over 10 years prior. Though
Harp is Adam’s sophomore album as PENDANT, it feels like a starting
point. The release of his 2019 debut Through a Coil was shadowed by the
dissolution of the record label it was released on the day it was
released. A year later he was burnt out. Attempting to tour the album
had been hard on his voice, and the structures of rock music, which had
dictated his entire life as a musician, were beginning to feel
claustrophobic.
PENDANT’s salvation came, ironically, in the form of the pandemic. Adams
was ready to make new music but was both mentally and physically
marooned, unable to reach the tools he would ordinarily use to make
music or the headspace he would ordinarily inhabit. Without a guitar,
the crutch that had supported much of his music-making in the past, he
was forced to sketch out Harp’s world in a more impressionistic,
free-associative way. Long a fan of dance and
electronic music, he was suddenly without any good reason to not
venture into that beat-heavy, synth-drenched world. The resulting Harp
recalls the precise but emotionally rich landscapes of Arca or Oneohtrix
Point Never, rendered in the watercolors of My Bloody Valentine.

Acid Jazz Records presents Nick Manasseh & David Hill’s Soul Revivers: ‘On the Grove’.
An ambitious and passionate collaboration project, it features musicians
spanning seven decades, including Jamaican legends: Ernest Ranglin, Ken
Boothe, Earl 16 and Devon Russell; alongside contemporary artists,
including jazz trumpeter Ms. Maurice (known for her work with Afro—Jazz
Ensemble Kokoroko and Nubya Garcia), and vocalist Alexia Coley.
The roots of Soul Revivers lie in film. In late 2017, David was asked to
act as music and creative consultant for Idris Elba’s Yardie. A year or
so after the film was completed, David and Nick returned to some unused
sessions they had recorded for the film. These sessions then became the
seeds of this album.
