Harper Trio / Dialogue of Thoughts

Σου είχα πει για το πρώτο, βγήκε και δεύτερο

In recent years, the jazz harp has quietly reemerged as a force in modern jazz circles, exemplified by electric jazz harpist and composer Maria-Christina Harper. In 2023, she released her much-acclaimed debut album 'Passing By 'with The Harper Trio, imbuing her compositions and instrument with a spirit of innovation and creative freedom. Drawing influences from her Greek and Egyptian musical roots to the avant-garde, the album established the trio's signature sound - spiritually charged, shimmering soundscapes and experimental tones - recasting the harp's place in jazz.

Dialogue of Thoughts is The Harper Trio's second album reuniting the exceptional talents of celebrated drummer Evan Jenkins (of the Neil Cowley Trio) and dynamic saxophonist Josephine Davies. True to her approach, Maria-Christina Harper is less concerned with placing her harp centre stage than creating a dialogue between band members, each bringing their own experiences to the sound. The trio takes the listener on an aural journey rich in nuance and unexpected turns. Throughout the album, Davies' warm, full-bodied tone and expansive solos--fuelled by Jenkins' measured, intricate drumming--interplay with the harp to evoke contrasting moods, from brash intensity to quiet serenity and unhurried calm.

Kessoncoda / Outerstate

Manchester-based label Gondwana Records has championed a distinct style of cinematic jazz since its founding in 2008. Blending sweeping melodies with downtempo rhythms, artists such as Portico Quartet and Mammal Hands have developed imaginative improvisations that are as likely to include handpans and synths as saxophone or piano.
London duo Kessoncoda are the label’s latest signing, and their debut album, Outerstate, adds to its catalogue of mood music. Across 10 tracks, drummer Tom Sunney and keyboardist Filip Sowa display their knack for emotive swells and undulating orchestrations.

Harper Trio / Passing By

Greek born with Egyptian roots, electric jazz harpist and composer Maria-Christina Harper is reinventing the sound of the harp in the jazz world. With her anarchic spirit and an interest in exploring what the harp can do, rather than exploring its traditional sounds, she presents her instrument in new and exciting ways. Combining her traditional music roots with free jazz she creates an irresistible, compelling sound cosmos. It’s where East meets West.
Maria-Christina has gathered two outstanding, highly acclaimed players to form The Harper Trio for whom she has specifically composed 7 original tracks. Featuring drummer’s-drummer Evan Jenkins and the dynamic saxophonist Josephine Davies (Instrumentalist of The Year, 2019 Parliamentary Jazz Awards), the trio release Passing By, a powerful debut recording of shimmering soundscapes and psychedelic sounds that flirt with the avant-garde creating an inventive slice of spiritual jazz.

Mildlife / Live From South Channel Island

On March 10th, 2021, Mildlife travelled by boat to South Channel Island to perform a live concert. This was filmed and recorded resulting in the motion picture Mildlife Live at South Channel Island. The artificial Island hosts a long abandoned 19th century fort, a labyrinth of underground concrete tunnels and an important breeding ground for the white-faced storm-petrel. Along with Mildlife, other visitors to the island include Abalone poachers, fairy penguins, black-faced cormorants and fur seals.

Before the island existed, the Boonwurrung people of the Greater Kulin Nation have lived on the land and waterways this performance was held on. Mildlife pays respect to their elders past, present and emerging and recognise that sovereignty has never been ceded.
